I'm a full-time college sophomore pursuing my B.A. in English with hopes of one day working as an editor. Cats, musicals, documentaries about cults/disasters/tragedies, and curse words are just a few of my favorite things. Also, check out our blog or I WILL FIND YOU.

Venom (Secrets of the Eternal Rose, #1)

Venom - Fiona Paul See more of my reviews sooner on The YA Kitten! My copy was an ARC I received through an ARC tour. The first two chapters were interesting enough, but the further in I got, the less interesting things got. No personal investment in Cassandra and her world made it impossible to feel the tension of the mystery or see what she saw in Falco. The way Cass keeps bringing up the letter from her fiance and yet hasn't opened it by page 173 (40% into the novel and my stopping point) is beyond irritating. There simply isn't any reason for me to keep going.I don't even like Falco. The guy pressures her too much and at one point, he says, "A beautiful woman who doesn't speak. Every man's dream." If we're supposed to find a guy romantic, stuff like this will put me off no matter what time period he's from. It's hard to create the balance between time-appropriate views and the bias of readers who come from a twenty-first century perspective. That much I can admit. The author fails to create that balance.
